For a domestic user who downloads large files I would recommend ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line). ADSL is able to get up to 8mb broadband which is more than enough for a user which downloads large amounts of information. The high downstream bandwidth means your telephone line will be able to watch videos as you download them without having to wait till it is finished. A small portion of download stream is also devoted to voice rather than data meaning that you are able to use your phone line while connected to the internet. The internet connection is also always on. Some areas in the UK wont be able to use ADSL because they are not close enough to an exchange and others may need upgrades to their telephone line.
Advantages:
   Connected 24/7.
   High bandwidth for fast downloads.
Can be used by multi users and still run at a good speed.
Able to get between 512k and 8mb connections.
When online can also use the telephone.
   Some ISP does free installation.
   No additional internet charges.
